About HipCat Printery

We craft fine art prints using century-old presses, blending tradition with bold creativity.

Who we are...

Lawrence Finn

I am an award-winning artist printmaker (Silk Cut – Acquisition Award, Port Jackson Press – Peoples Choice) who runs an open access studio (HipCat Printery) in Central Victoria.

Many of the printing presses I teach on are over 120 years old and the newest presses are around 50 years old. I am a fine artist and also part of the “Lost Trades” movement, teaching hand setting (traditional typography) and block making for printing (from hand cut, engraved to computer to plate for letterpress).

I am a master printmaker and taught in TAFE and universities in NSW for a decade. I recently completed a Masters of Teaching (Art) at Federation University. I am VIT registered.

I teach art (and design) practice, history and theory.

My Art specialisation is printmaking – where I teach wood engraving, lino cutting, screen printing, etching, dry point, book binding and box making.
